He was introduced to the political scene by the then Thane Shivsena President Anand Dighe in early 1980. Shinde succeeded Dighe when Dighe passed away in 2001. Shinde has been an elected member of the Legislative Assembly since 2004 for four consecutive terms.

In the 1980s while he was working a tiny job in the 1980s, he was introduced to Shivsena the supremo Bal Thackeray and Shivsena’s Thane District Chief Anand Dighe, who helped him be a part of Shiv Sena.
After becoming a member of Shiv Sena, he was elected Shakha Pramukh of Kisan Nagar. Shakha Pramukh in Kisan Nagar in 1980. In 2005, Shiv Sena named him the Thane District Director.
